Among Detroit Pistons players under contract for next season, only a pair of veterans are skipping the team's voluntary workouts, which started in the Motor City earlier this week.
"All of our young guys are here," head coach Dwane Casey said, according to ESPN's Eric Woodyard. "Derrick Rose and Blake (Griffin) are not here, which is totally understandable. Both are working out, and it's nothing physical. They're both 100 percent. Blake's working out in L.A., and Derrick is in and out of town."
Also missing from the camp are Christian Wood and Langston Galloway, though both are impending free agents.
"We're not reading anything into that either way," Casey added. "So it's just something I totally get because if I'm a free agent, I wouldn't attend anyway to the team you're not under contract with."
Phase 1 of the Pistons' camp consists of daily testing for COVID-19 and individual workouts, according to the Detroit Free Press' Omari Sankofa II. It began Monday and concludes on Sept. 20. The more comprehensive Phase 2 runs Sept. 21 to Oct. 6.
During the second phase, the Pistons - and the seven other teams that weren't invited to play in the NBA's Orlando restart in July - will hold scrimmages and full in-market practices for the first time since the league went on hiatus in March.
