Luka Doncic and TJ Warren know that Phoenix Suns superstar Devin Booker has established himself as one of the best guards in the NBA today. However, there’s no denying that his individual brilliance has done little to improve the stature of the Suns as an organization since his arrival.
To be fair to Booker, it could be argued that the Suns front office is as much, if not even more at fault for this lack of significant development, considering how they could have formed a super team with Booker, Luka Doncic and TJ Warren.
Obviously, there are a lot of moving parts that led to this superteam never coming to fruition, but the fact of the matter is that Phoenix could have had quite a Big 3 right now.
The Suns selected Booker 13th overall in the 2015 NBA Draft, which at this point, has proven to be an absolute steal for them. This has been one of the best decisions the Phoenix front office has made in recent years, but the same cannot be said in the case of Doncic and Warren.
In 2018, the Suns were the proud owners of the first overall pick in the draft. They used it to sign big man Deandre Ayton, who himself has been a tremendous prospect for the team thus far. However, they did pass on Doncic, who eventually went third overall to the Dallas Mavericks (via the Atlanta Hawks). Ayton has the potential to be a great big man, but he is no Luka Doncic.
Phoenix’s decision on Warren is even more of a travesty. Last summer, they sent Warren to the Indiana Pacers for cash considerations. Warren showed the Suns what they were missing with an amazing performance on Saturday against the Philadelphia 76ers, scoring a career-high 53 points on 20-of-29 shooting to lead the Pacers to vicotry.
