Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid knows he has the willpower to follow health and safety protocols when the NBA continues its season at Walt Disney World later in July. It's everyone else in the league he's worried about.
"I donât think itâs going to be safe," the three-time All-Star said Tuesday, according to the Bucks County Courier Times' Tom Moore. "I know Iâm going to do the right thing. I only play video games. I donât trust those other guys to do the same."
While the league is providing entertainment such as video games, ping pong, and DJ sets, along with amenities such as barbershops and pedicurists, the most successful teams - the ones that play deep into the postseason - will be required to stay within the campus environment from July to October.
Those who do leave the bubble would be required to quarantine and provide multiple negative test results for COVID-19 before being allowed to re-enter, making it a time-prohibitive option.
Overall, Embiid doesn't like the situation he and his fellow players are entering, but he said he's committed to continuing the season for the sake of the city of Philadelphia.
