As more and more players test positive for the coronavirus, the list of athletes who might potentially miss the NBA restart slowly grows. But apparently it’s not just the players themselves who have expressed their apprehensions towards the return to action. So has one famous NBA announcer, Marv Albert.
The NBA’s most iconic voice to come out of our TV sets will be absent throughout the duration of the league’s bubble games. The latest report from the New York Post‘s Andrew Marchand has Albert confirming his absence from Orlando
Albert is 79 years old, and is considered by many to be the greatest play-by-play announcer the NBA has ever had. But for Albert to prioritize his health is understandable. The way that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted people aged 65 or older has been much more lethal than others, especially compared to most NBA players who are in prime physical condition.
But this does not mean that his voice will remain silent throughout the season. While he will not be on-site in ESPN’s Wide World of Sports in Disney World, he will still be available to call games from a remote location.
Turner Sports may not have Albert physically present, but they will still have a handful of beloved announcers to call the games for the fans. Ian Eagle, Brian Anderson, and also Kevin Harlan, who has long served as the second favorite right next to Marv Albert, will all call games.
