Kendrick Perkins defends LeBron James’ place in history, dishes out on Kobe Bryant
原文:
Amid all the noise surrounding Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James’ rightful place in the all-time rankings, “The King” has found himself an ally in Kendrick Perkins.
The bruising enforcer turned ESPN analyst once again backed up the four-time MVP in a heated debate with his former Boston Celtics teammate Paul Pierce on Friday.Â
Pierce, who already made headlines after proclaiming LeBron wasn’t a top 5 player of all-time, made a case that the late Lakers icon Kobe Bryant was the superior player between the two.
Perk was having none of it, arguing that the 2008 Celtics championship squad had more trouble going up against James’ Cavs than Kobe’s Lakers at the time.
“All I know is it was a lot easier to win against Kobe Bryant than it was LeBron James. You can talk if you want to talk, but I was right there in the thick of things with you. I know he (Pierce) had to really prep for LeBron James and when we got to the Lakers it was smacked up six,” the 6-foot-10 retired slotman said.
Perkins and Pierce, of course, ran through both teams during the C’s “Big 3” era. They eliminated the Cavs in the East semis in 2008 and finished off the Lakers in six games in the Finals.
Bryant and the Lakers eventually got their revenge in 2010, while James seemingly ended Boston’s rein in the East once he joined the Miami Heat in 2010.
The GOAT debate, meanwhile, continues to rage on following the recently concluded “The Last Dance” docuseries that centered around Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls’ dominance in the ’90s.
James and Bryant are believed to be two closest contenders in terms of Jordan’s claim as the best there ever was.
