New York Knicks guard RJ Barrett still thinks he can win the Rookie of the Year Award.
Although Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant is the front runner to win the award, Barrett remains bullish on his odds and talent.
âA lot of people deserve [Rookie of the Year], a lot of people work hard for it. I donât know. Itâs kind of hard not to vote for myself,â the Knicks rookie said on Friday morning before a Rising Stars practice at Wintrust Arena, via Marc Berman of The New York Post.
âI feel like a lot of guys are playing really good. Thereâs a lot of good rookies out there. Jaâs been doing his thing all year. Kendrick [Nunn of the Heat]. Zionâs back now. Guys are playing really well. Iâm never going to stop believing in myself.ââ
Barrett played in 45 games in the first half of the season for the Knicks. The lefty averaged 13.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting 38.8 percent from the field, 31.8 percent from beyond the arc and 61.1 percent from the free-throw line.
New York is only 17-38 on the season. The Grizzlies, meanwhile, are 28-26 in the rugged Western Conference, with Morant putting on a show all season long.
