The Memphis Grizzlies have selected Wake Forest forward Jake LaRavia with the No. 19 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft after completing a trade to send picks No. 22 and No. 29 to the Minnesota Timberwolves, per Adrian Wojnarowski.

LaRavia, who earned All-ACC honors as a member of the Demon Deacons in the 2021-22 season, was the second-leading scorer for the program. The Indianapolis, Indiana native was one of the more efficient scorers for Wake Forest, scoring 14.6 points per game on 55.6 percent shooting from the field, 38.4 percent shooting from downtown, and 77.7 percent shooting from the free-throw line. He figures to be a solid addition for the Grizzlies, who traded up in the NBA Draft in order to secure his services.
At 6-9 and 228 pounds, LaRavia has the size and quickness to switch seamlessly between the forward spots, and can line up alongside Grizzlies’ bigs in Jaren Jackson, and Brandon Clarke. The Wake Forest product even said he feels he has the ability to guard one through four, making him the prototypical forward in today’s NBA. An excellent help defender, LaRavia should have no trouble adjusting to life as an NBA player on that end of the floor.
A solid playmaker, LaRavia can be utilized as the ball-handler in the pick-and-roll. Primarily a catch-and-shoot artist, the 20-year-old did struggle a bit when tasked to create his own offense in college.
With plenty of room to grow, LaRavia could go down as one of the steals of the 2022 NBA Draft, and a great addition for the Grizzlies. Congratulations are in order for Jake LaRavia and his family.
