Houston Rockets rookie Jalen Green will be out at least a week with a strained hamstring. Rockets head coach Stephen Silas said Friday Green will be evaluated in a week, according to Rockets reporter Cayleigh Griffin.
Green suffered the injury in Wednesday’s game against the Chicago Bulls after getting off to a strong start. The rookie had 11 points in 11 minutes before leaving with the injury.

Even without Green, the Rockets were able to pull off a major upset of the Bulls, ending a 15-game losing streak with a 118-113 victory. Eight players scored in double figures for Houston, with Danuel House Jr. leading the way with 18 points off the bench. The Rockets racked up 59 bench points in the win.
Green’s performance has been something of a roller-coaster ride after going second overall in the 2021 NBA Draft behind Cade Cunningham. The 19-year-old has shown flashes of brilliance and is averaging 14.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 30.8 minutes per game, but he’s also shooting just 38.2% from the field and 27.8% from 3-point range.
Houston is sure to be extra cautious with the prized rookie. The Rockets are 2-16 on the season and are focusing on development, not wins, so there’s zero reason to rush him back before he’s ready. Green will surely be anxious to get back out there as soon as possible, but the team will be smart with him.
