Carter-Williams spent the past two and a half years with the Magic. The former Rookie of the Year winner originally signed with Orlando on a couple of 10-day contracts back in March 2019, and he has been a Magic ever since. He’s clearly doing well enough for Orlando’s front office to keep him on board.
Last season, he averaged 7.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.1 steals in 18.5 minutes off the Magic bench. He isn’t exactly star-player material, but he gets the job done.
The details of MCW’s new deal with the Magic remains unclear at this point, but he will likely be earning the same amount of money he pocketed last year, which was the minimum ($2 million). Carter-Williams did not appear to have too many suitors in free agency, so it comes to no surprise that the Magic have been able to sign him to an extension.
This development is not exactly the headline-grabbing transaction Magic fans have been waiting for. Recently, they were linked to a move for Houston Rockets want-away star Russell Westbrook, in a rumored trade deal involving Aaron Gordon. While that swap never really picked up steam, it probably still isn’t dead at this point. Westbrook could still be dawning Orlando’s colors next season. Then again, we wouldn’t advise holding your breath on that one.
