Kyle Lowry delivers powerful message after huge national anthem decision
原文:
Kyle Lowry had an excellent performance for the Toronto Raptors on Saturday, as he led his team to an impressive 107-92 victory against the Los Angeles Lakers. What he did on the court was not his only concern though, with Lowry also sharing his thoughts on both teams’ decision to take a knee during the playing of the national anthems.
Both the US and Canadian national anthems were played prior to tip off, and players and coaches on both teams were locked in arms as they kneeled throughout both anthems. After the game, Lowry discussed the message they wanted to send with their act.
“Honestly to think about it, I was on my knee for over four minutes,” the Raptors star stated, per Malika Andrews of ESPN. “To think that a police officer could do that for eight minutes and 46 seconds. Doc Rivers said it, about two minutes, and now we done it for eight [minutes] tonight and I indented my towel. It’s a sad moment. I think we did a great job of understanding what we’re doing and why we’re doing it. We’re using our platform, and my shirt says a lot.”

Kyle Lowry echoed the earlier statement of Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers, who also spoke about the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police. Similar to the other players in attendance, the Raptors vet also had the “Black Lives Matter” shirt on, and as he said above, they hope this sends a message that is loud and clear.
Below is a clip of both teams on their knees during the anthems:

Much respect to Lowry for ensuring that the conversation about systemic racism continues to be a prominent subject as the NBA plays out the remainder of the season.
