In fact, Carter says Boylen is one of his favorite coaches he’s ever played for:
“Jim is definitely a different coach than from what I’ve had,” Wendell Carter Jr. told Sam Smith of Bulls.com. “He shows a lot of passion. He speaks what’s on his mind. At first we didn’t get along as well as I would have thought. But as I got to know him and the fact he just wants us to be great and he really cares for us and wants us to play well, I love him now. He’s one of my favorite coaches I’ve had. I’m looking forward to growing with him in the years to come.”
Now if only Bulls fans feel the same way about Boylen that Carter does. Vice president John Paxson and general manager Gar Forman love Boylen, even giving him a contract extension over the offseason for some reason.
Boylen had a mutiny on his hands last season, and he has already gotten into a little spat with shooting guard Zach LaVine after benching the high-flyer against the Miami Heat. LaVine responded to the benching with 49 points and a game-winning shot versus the Charlotte Hornets, but itâs pretty clear Zach and Boylen have a ways to go before they are on the same page.
