Chicago Bulls star Zach LaVine was all the way in his creative bag during a practice session on Friday morning.
LaVine, a two-time winner of the Slam Dunk Contest, is an explosive player. Alley-oops slams and two-handed yams are his forte. Unfortunately, though, he will not be participating at this year’s event.
NBA fans around the globe remember Bulls legend Michael Jordan’s iconic leap from the free-throw line in the 1987 Slam Dunk Contest. LaVine nearly pulled off a similar dunk, but with a twist:

The Bulls have struggled to find a rhythm this season, as their 19-36 overall record can attest. LaVine, however, has played well. In his 55 appearances, the former UCLA Bruin has racked up averages of 25.3 points on 44.8 percent shooting from the field (38.5 percent from beyond the arc), 4.8 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.4 steals in 34.5 minutes per outing.
This year’s Slam Dunk Contest will feature several talented rim-rockers, including Lakers center Dwight Howard — another previous winner. Like the Bulls super-athlete, Howard has been in the lab, working on new jams. Will the former No. 1 overall pick bring back his famous Superman dunk?
