The Detroit Pistons have told center Andre Drummondâs representatives the franchise would like to re-sign the All-Star, according to Vincent Ellis of the Detroit Free Press.
Drummond requested a contract extension this summer. He has two years left on his deal, with a player option for the 2020-21 season.
(Owner Tom) Gores confirmed the two sides are âtalking at a business level,â and two sources told the Free Press that the Pistons have told Drummondâs representatives the franchise would like to retain his services. This comes after multiple sources told the Free Press last month Drummond requested a contract extension at some point during the offseason. Numbers have been exchanged, but itâs clear what he expects: He would like to sign the second maximum contract of his career.
Drummond will make $27.1 million this season. His player option is worth $28.8 million.
It’s unknown if the Pistons are prepared to offer Drummond a max contract extension. Drummond likely won’t take a pay cut to stay in Detroit.
Last season, Drummond was a monster for the Pistons. The two-time All-Star averaged 17.3 points and 15.6 rebounds while shooting 53.3 percent from the field.
