The Washington Wizards have traded center Dwight Howard to the Memphis Grizzlies, according to a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic.
In return the Wizards will receive veteran wing C.J. Miles, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported. Charania added that the Grizzlies will waive Howard. The deal will save the Grizzlies about $3.1 million in salary, Wojnarowski reported.
Howard, 33, appeared in just nine games with the Wizards before needing spinal surgery to relieve pain in his glutes. He compiled averages of 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds. In the past four seasons, Howard has played for the Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets and Wizards.
If he’s picked up by another team, the 6-foot-10 All-Star will have played for seven franchises in all.
Miles, 32, was acquired by the Grizzlies from the Toronto Raptors in a deal at the trade deadline. He appeared in 13 games with the Grizzlies and averaged 9.3 points. Along with the Raptors and Grizzlies, the sharpshooting Miles has spent time with the Indiana Pacers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Utah Jazz.
