The Toronto Raptors are signing veteran free-agent guard Jodie Meeks to a 10-day contract, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The 31-year-old Meeks, the 41st overall pick of the 2009 draft out of Kentucky by the Milwaukee Bucks, last played in the NBA a year ago, when he appeared in 77 games off the bench for the Washington Wizards.
Meeks was traded by Washington to the Milwaukee Bucks on Oct. 15 was initially suspended for the first 25 games of this season because of a failed drug test, and was promptly cut by the Bucks shortly after the suspension ended.
He averaged 6.3 points and 1.6 rebounds in 14.5 minutes last season for Washington, shooting 39.9 percent from the field, 34.3 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and 86.3 percent from the free-throw line.
With the signing of Meeks, Toronto’s roster is now at the league-mandated 14 players. According to Bobby Marks of ESPN, the salary-cap hit for Toronto for signing Meeks is $85,000, which will cost the Raptors $214,000 toward the luxury tax.
The 6-foot-4,210-pound Meeks carries career averages of 9.3 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 22.6 minutes in 531 games (204 starts), with a shooting line of 41.8/37.2/87.9.
