Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal is having what has easily been the best season of his NBA career, and he now has a pair of 40-point triple-doubles to show for it.
During the Wizards’ 140-138 overtime loss to the Toronto Raptors on Sunday afternoon, Beal racked up 43 points, 15 assists and 10 rebounds, making 17 of his 36 field goal attempts and draining six 3-pointers.
Beal is now the first player in Washington’s franchise history to ever record multiple 40-point triple-doubles in the same season:
Beal’s first such stat line of the year came last month against the Phoenix Suns, when he posted 40 points, 15 assists and 11 rebounds in a thrilling triple-overtime victory.
Heading into the Raptors game, Beal was averaging 24.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists over 36.7 minutes per game while shooting 47.3 percent from the floor, 35.2 percent from 3-point range and 80 percent from the free-throw line.
The question is, how much longer will Beal be a member of the Wizards?
While a trade before next month’s deadline seems unrealistic, Beal is currently in the third year of a five-year contract worth nearly $130 million that will take him through the end of 2021.
With Washington seeming ready to blow it up, will Beal be a victim over the summer?
It doesn’t seem like the Wizards want to continue with the Beal-John Wall backcourt much longer, and earlier in the year, reports stated that everyone on the team was available for the right price.
Beal was originally drafted by Washington in 2012. Heading into Sunday, he owned career averages of 19.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game and has one All-Star Game under his belt.
